Fashion of Volantis

This series is an extension of my "Fashions of Westeros" set, which in turn was directly inspired by Metalblackfae's piece "Westeros fashion style". With the publication of The World of Ice and Fire sourcebook, the fringe cultures of Martin's world were revealed in dazzling detail, and the ones already present were expanded immensely. Most of the physical/aesthetic details in these pieces come from the sourcebook, as well as my personal interpretations and any snatches gleaned from the show itself.

Volantis was a tricky one to work out. Description-wise, there were some fairly specific features regarding the city- humid climate, large slave population and a rigid social hierarchy- but not much on the overall appearance of the Volantenes themselves (granted, I haven't read the books). I took my visual cues from Volantis' status as the "firstborn of Valyria": silvery hair, elaborate clothing patterns, fancy jewelry and proud, imperious expressions. The variety of colors used in the clothing is meant to reflect the overall diversity of the city's population (natives, slaves, visiting foreigners or otherwise).
