Literature Text

Justice, wealth, glory and wisdom were all bright stars of this golden king's reign.
Under the lash and the heat of the sun, the people endured and escaped 'cross the sea.
Despite all of history's ebbs and flows, their culture is vibrant down to this day.
Atop a high peak, beneath iridescent arches, all creatures rejoice at the end of the deluge.
Inlaid and adorned with treasures great, this holy of holies was twice erected.
Stony tablets bear great carved glyphs, received by the prophet and spread to the people.
Meager remains of a once-proud sanctum, it still draws disciples to its stony facade.

Candles gently flickering amidst the perfumed air of rising incense.
Holy water and sacred oil anoint the brows of earthly kings.
Robed in a mantle of gold and azure, roses and lilies crown this great lady.
Image of cruelty and torture to some, symbol of hope and salvation to others.
Secluded quarters and sheltered cloisters house devotees of the highest quality.
Tolling bells and haunting hymns echo throughout the lofty halls.
Innumerable men and countless women, bearing myriad symbols and leaves of palm.
Across deserts, mountains and oceans, rites and rituals have altered and aged.
Niches, alcoves, cells and corners brim with priceless art and relics.
Ivory wings shine above the flowing river as a young man stands in silent thought.
Towers and arches of mighty stone, all interwoven with glass and light.
Yet despite His gruesome death, He rose again in shinning glory.

Intelligence and knowledge surpassed by none; magnificent tomes of lore and wisdom.
Songs and poems echoing through silk-draped chambers illuminated by the desert moon.
Lines of camels plod across vast lands, bearing both travelers and the wealth of the world.
Artists whose work takes infinite forms; from colors and shapes to crafts and letters.
Massive cities and lavish halls conceal swishing robes and swirling veils.
The first volume in my "Rainbow of Veneration" series. I've wanted to do a poem comparing different world religions for a while, but after I brainstormed all the images, symbols and ideas I wanted to include, I realized that if I wrote it in normal prose or verse format, it would just be a big mish-mash of images and not convey the feeling I wanted it to. In the end, I decided to break up the concept into several poems of a few religions each and to write them in acrostic format, something I've never tried before. Enjoy.

As you can tell from the title, this volume compares the three major monotheistic religions of the world today.
