Navaratna Coral

Lately I've been in something of a rut with these doll-maker programs; I haven't been turning out as many original or good-quality ideas as I used to, so I decided to do a series based on a philosophy that's recently grabbed my attention.

The word Navaratna means "nine gems" in Sanskrit and refers to an ancient Indian astrological system (one also adopted by many countries in Southeast Asia) of using nine specific jewels to represent the heavenly bodies:

Sun (Ruby)
Venus (Diamond)
Moon (Pearl)
Mars (Red Coral)
Ascending Moon (Hessonite)
Saturn (Blue Sapphire)
Descending Moon (Cat's Eye)
Jupiter (Yellow Sapphire)
Mercury (Emerald)

The Sari Maker program was the obvious choice for this series, and in each piece, aside from the obvious color-coordination, I tried to use every feature possible (background, patterns/shapes in the clothing and jewelry, and even physical features- skin tone, hair style and facial expression) to express something of the "personality" (for lack of a better term) that each of these gems represents.
