Part of my Women of the World series

For each of these images I wanted to create a sort of physical embodiment of each nation (an allegory, if you will). In their outfits I tried to replicate as closely as possible not only a traditional costume from their countries, but also the colors and patterns of the national flags.

This one was tough because there were no pure white and red options. In the end I chose this design for two reasons; the brown stripes remind me of the interlocking wooden beams used to build traditional Japanese houses, and the blue lining is reminiscent of Japan's ocean geography.
